Featured Artist: Linda Chown

Linda is a long time resident of St. Catharines, Ontario. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Guelph. Following a 21-year teaching career and years devoted to raising three daughters, Linda returned to the studio with a renewed commitment to her creative practice. Her evolving process has been shaped through continued study at the Haliburton School of the Arts, where she explored acrylic painting, mixed media, and collage, as well as through immersive learning experiences, including a retreat with Flora Bowley and participation in an international online community of artists founded by Nicholas Wilton.

Working intuitively, Linda builds layered abstract compositions that echo rhythms found in the natural world. Her paintings unfold through gesture, colour, and accumulated marks, balancing spontaneity with reflection. While landscape predominates her work, she also enjoys choreographing the elements of art (colour, shape and line) to create dynamic compositions that are alive and playful. Linda’s goal is to create artwork that becomes a portal for contemplation and connection, while also creating a shared experience of curiosity and wonder with the viewer. Linda is a member of the St. Catharines Art Association. Her painting, ‘Eye Candy’ was recently accepted into a Juried Show at the Chapel Heights Gallery in Niagara Falls.
