You’re the Chef
Boosting your intake of fruits and veggies may help prevent high blood pressure and stroke, ward off type 2 diabetes and reduce your risk of developing certain types of cancers, among numerous other benefits. And they’re yummy! No, really. They are. As you (hopefully) know by now, this summer we are participating in the Healthy Kids Niagara Challenge. One of the programs we’re excited to present is You’re the Chef. In this program (running Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.) kids get hands-on in the creation of a healthful plant-based and produce-plenty meal. Children are given instruction on basic food preparation tips, skills, and safety. Some of our menu items include Veggie and Hummus Pitas, Black Bean Salad, and Carrot and Raisin Salad. This program is free and children are welcome to sample and/or bring home their portion and are also given a recipe page to make the meal again (among other fun Healthy Kids swag).
